Approaching Single-Photon Pulses

چکیده
Single-photon pulses cannot be generated on demand, due to incompatible requirements of positive frequencies and times. Resulting states therefore contain small probabilities for multiphotons. We derive upper lower bounds the maximum fidelity realizable that approximate single-photon pulses. The have implications ultrafast optics; is low with few cycles or close onset, but increases rapidly as pulse envelope varies more slowly. also demonstrate strictly localized are single photons.

Single Photon Source Using Laser Pulses and Two-Photon Absorption
We have previously shown that two-photon absorption (TPA) and the quantum Zeno effect can be used to make deterministic quantum logic devices from an otherwise linear optical system. Here we show that this type of quantum Zeno gate can be used with additional two-photon absorbing media and weak laser pulses to make a heralded single photon source. A source of this kind is expected to have a num...

LLE Review, Volume 115 153 Introduction Fast and reliable single-photon detectors (SPD’s) have become a highly sought after technology in recent years.1 Some of the most interesting applications for SPD’s, which include quantum communications and quantum key distribution,2 as well as satellite communications, require devices that can successfully operate at telecommunication wavelengths, namely...
متن کاملLong-Range Interactions and Entanglement of Slow Single-Photon Pulses
We show that very large nonlocal nonlinear interactions between pairs of colliding slow-light pulses can be realized in atomic vapors in the regime of electromagnetically induced transparency. These nonlinearities are mediated by strong, long-range dipole–dipole interactions between Rydberg states of the multi-level atoms in a ladder configuration. In contrast to previously studied schemes, thi...
متن کاملCapacity approaching codes for photon counting receivers
In [1] a low-complexity photon-counting receiver has been presented, which may be employed for weak-energy optical communications and which is typically modeled through its equivalent Binary Symmetric Channel (BSC) model. In this paper we consider the scheme described in [1], we model it as a time varying Binary Input-Multiple Output (BIMO) channel and analyze its performance in presence of sof...
متن کاملNeural Imaging Using Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes
Introduction: This paper analyses the ability of single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) for neural imaging. The current trend in the production of SPADs moves toward the minimumdark count rate (DCR) and maximum photon detection probability (PDP). Moreover, the jitter response which is the main measurement characteristic for the timing uncertainty is progressing. Methods: The neural imaging pro...
